Zanim pojawił się zwiastun promujący film Yves Saint Laurent, znałam jedynie markę, logo, ale nie znałam człowieka. Po przeczytaniu wywiadu w InStyle z aktorem grającego projektanta, Pierre Niney, wiedziałam, że muszę to zobaczyć. Wczorajsza wizyta w kinie zmieniła sposób, w jaki spostrzegam markę i nauczyła mnie, co znaczy bliskość ukochanej osoby oraz dążenie do celu pomimo różnych poprzeczek.
Yves Saint Laurent zrewolucjonizował współczesną kobietę. Według projektanta, kobieta w jego oczach toczy podwójne życie, dlatego cenił w niej kobiecość jak i męskość. Sam
toczył wewnętrzną walkę z samym sobą, ukrywając z początku miłość do
drugiego mężczyzny, a potem gubiąc się w świecie narkotyków i zdrad.
Pomimo pragnień, wiedział, że Pierre Berge jest mężczyzną jego życia, i że to
właśnie jego potrzebuje do dalszej realizacji planów. Bez wsparcia
bliskiej osoby, sukces nie jest możliwy. Yves był uparty, pomimo choroby
dokończył kolejna kolekcję, i nie poddawał się po usłyszeniu krytyki ze
strony redaktorów. Wiedział, że ludzie oczekują dużo, więc musi im dać
jeszcze więcej.
Z początku, po odejściu od Diora, stworzył kolekcję
ubrań eleganckich i klasycznych, reprezentujących kobietę biznesu,
kobietę z klasą, lecz kolekcja była odebrana jako nudna. Zaczął więc eksperymentować, dodając ekstrawagancji i nowoczesności. Powstały bluzki
z zamszu, bluzki opadające z ramion, kozaki do kolan, damskie garnitury, skórzane kurtki w wersji eleganckiej, a potem futerka, krótkie żakiety, i jego słynne sukienki w kratę,
zainspirowane sztuką znalezioną w książce poświęconej malarstwie.
Wszystkie kolekcje były dopracowane szczegółowo. Yves cenił prostotę i
elegancję, lecz nie bał się eksperymentów. Chciał próbować czegoś
nowego, aby zaskoczyć widownię, i to się jemu udało.
Dzięki tego fantastycznego filmu, zyskałam większy szacunek do projektanta, tak jak kiedyś po obejrzeniu filmu o Coco Chanel. I mimo że do tej pory jedynym elementem, którym mogłam się nacieszyć osobiście z logiem YSL były perfumy Baby Doll, to niewykluczone, że kiedyś coś zagości w mojej szafie z nazwiskiem projektanta na metce. Kilka lat temu, moja babcia znalazła stary klasyczny garnitur mojego dziadka, i gdy zerknęłam na poszewkę, ku mojemu zdziwieniu, był to garnitur Yves Saint Laurent. Nikt poza mną w rodzinie nie wiedział co to znaczy. Mój brat cioteczny dostał go w prezencie. Ja niestety takiego szczęścia w życiu nie miałam, na rzeczy designerskie muszę zapracować sobie sama. Bo tak już jest, dobre i wielkie rzeczy nie przychodzą same - trzeba o nie samemu zawalczyć. To pokazuje nam życie, i to pokazał nam sam Yves Saint Laurent.
Movie Review: Yves Saint Laurent... fashion icon and man of global success
Before the trailer for Yves Saint Laurent was released, I knew the brand, the logo but I didn’t know the person behind it all. After reading an interview in InStyle with Pierre Niney, who plays the main character, I knew, that this was something I had to see. Yesterday’s trip to the movies changed the way, in which I perceive the brand and taught me, what it means to have someone close nearby and what it means to strive for success despite different obstacles.
Yves Saint Laurent revolutionized the modern woman. According to the designer, the women in his eyes lives a double life, that is why he valued femininity and masculinity. He himself was fighting an internal battle with himself, at first hiding his love to another man, then losing himself in the world of drugs and cheating. Despite desires, he knew, that Pierre Berge is the man of his life, and that he’s the one he needs to further realize his plans. Without the support of a loved one, success isn’t possible. Yves was stubborn, despite being sick he finished his following collection and didn’t give up after being criticized by editors. He knew, that people expect a lot from him, so he had to give them even more.
In the beginning, after leaving Dior, he created a collection of elegant and classic pieces, representing the business woman, classy woman, but the collection was seen as boring. He started experimenting, adding extravagance and modernism. He created shirts from suede, peasant tops, knee-high boots, woman’s suits, leather elegant jackets, and then furs, peacoats, and his famous white dresses with a square design inspired by art found in a book. All of his collections had detailed finishes. Yves valued simplicity and elegance, but wasn’t afraid of experimenting. He wanted to try something new, to surprise the audience, and succeeded.
The movie showed the designer as a sensitive person, sometimes lost but always ambitious. It showed, how much he had to go through to get to his goal. It showed talent, modesty, creativity. However, the fashion was a bit on the back burner in this movie, and that was unfortunate. According to Pierre Niney in the InStyle interview, all of the designs used in the movie were original designs found in galleries or museums. It was worth focusing on the details, as it so happened in one of the ending scenes during the fashion show of 1976. The collection was inspired by Russian culture - ethnic designs, velvet, browns, red, shawls, embroidery.
Thanks to this fantastic movie, I gained greater respect towards the designer, just like I had once towards Coco Chanel. And even though up until today, the only element I could enjoy personally with the YSL logo were Baby Doll perfume, it’s not inevitable, that something of YSL will once live in my closet. A few years ago, my grandmother found an old suit of my grandfather’s and when I checked the inner lining, to my surprise, it was a YSL suit. No one in my family besides me knew what that meant. My cousin got that sit as a gift. I was never that lucky, and designer things are something I have to work towards by myself. Because that’s how it is, good and big things never come by themselves - you have to fight for them. That’s what life shows us, and that’s what Yves Saint Laurent showed us as well.
